Why Availability Matters More Than Ever

In short

MicroPower Direct is significantly expanding the range of products stocked at DigiKey over the coming weeks. Dozens of additional models will be available for immediate purchase, including isolated DC/DC converters, encapsulated AC/DC power supplies and POL switching regulators — stocked in real volume across key product families rather than a handful of token part numbers.

If you’ve been designing electronics for any length of time, you’ve probably learned one lesson the hard way: a component isn’t really available until it’s on the shelf.

Why is availability a design problem again?

Over the past several years, supply chains reminded the whole industry how quickly lead times can change. Conditions have improved since the height of the shortages, but many engineers and buyers are again seeing longer lead times on certain components and less certainty around delivery. Availability is back to being something you have to design around.

At MicroPower Direct, we’ve always believed that choosing a power supply shouldn’t become the bottleneck in a project. Whether you’re building an evaluation board, assembling prototypes, or preparing for production, having parts on hand when you need them keeps the work moving.

What is changing at DigiKey?

We’ve stocked products at DigiKey for years. Over the coming weeks we’re expanding that significantly — dozens of additional MPD models will become available for immediate purchase, including many of our most popular isolated DC/DC converters, encapsulated AC/DC power supplies, and POL switching regulators. These are parts engineers use every day across industrial, communications, instrumentation and embedded designs. We’re stocking them in real volume across key product families, not a handful of token part numbers.

What does that change in practice?

The practical benefit is straightforward: it removes a step between deciding on a part and having it in hand. For engineers, that means faster access to samples and prototype quantities. For purchasing teams, it’s another trusted source when schedules are tight. For production, it’s more confidence that the parts you designed in can be sourced when it’s time to build.

We’ll keep adding products over the coming weeks as inventory arrives. Power conversion is what we design. Helping customers get products when they need them is part of the same job.

Common questions

Where can I buy MicroPower Direct products?

Directly from MPD, through our distributor and rep network, and — for a growing list of models — from DigiKey for immediate purchase in sample or production quantities.

Can I order small quantities for evaluation?

Yes. That is much of the point of stocking distribution — a single part for a bench evaluation is as easy to buy as a reel for production, with no minimum order to negotiate first.

What if the part I need isn’t stocked?

Contact us. The stocked list is a subset of the catalogue and it is growing weekly, so a model that isn’t there today may be shortly — and we can quote it directly in the meantime.
