Case Study: Medical Devices – Point-of-Care Imaging

Project Overview

A global manufacturer of medical imaging equipment required compact DC/ DC power supplies to support internal subsystems within a portable diagnostic platform. Known for producing ultrasound and imaging systems for hospitals and clinical settings, their devices integrate multiple electronics modules—some requiring certified components, others allowing more flexible design choices. For non-patient-facing control, the engineering team needed isolated, efficient power that could fit into a tightly packed board layout.

Key design goals included:

  • Strong isolation to reduce noise in sensitive analog circuits
  • Compact footprints to meet dense board layout constraints
  • High efficiency to minimize thermal load
  • Cost-effective flexibility for non-critical subsystems

The engineering team selected two DC/DC converters from MicroPower Direct. The MG200BI offers 2W output, 3,000 VDC isolation, and ultra-compact MiniDIP packaging—ideal for tight layouts requiring low-noise performance. The MA300RW provides 3W output, 3,000 VDC isolation, and UL 62368 safety approval in a standard DIP case—combining robust protection with system integration ease.

Together, these converters delivered clean, regulated power while preserving flexibility—supporting reliable subsystem operation without over-engineering non-patient-facing circuits.
